Canon R5 Mirrorless Camera - some first things
I just received my refurbished R5 from Canon.
It looks absolutely pristine.
The first thing is to charge the battery.
Then I install the R to EF adapter (with control ring).
Then I install my EF 50mm f/1.4 lens
I thought it might be interesting to check the shutter count, but apparently Canon has made
this all but impossible to do. There is an app that runs on Iphones or mac machines,
but I have access to neither of these.
Next on my list is to check the firmware version.
- Turn the camera on and press the menu button.
- Spin the mode dial to select the "wrench" up top.
- Spin the front dial to selct "6"
- The bottom entry shows Firmware "version 1.7.0"
- The EF mount adapter also has firmware - "version 1.0.0"
As of 3-22-2023, version 1.7.0 is the latest firmware for the camera.
I am so far unable to find any firmware, updates or otherwise for the adapter.
Now to set the date and time:
- Turn the camera on and press the menu button.
- Spin the mode dial to select the "wrench" up top.
- Spin the front dial to select "1"
- Spin the back dial to select Date/Time/Zone
- Press the set button to get a dialog.
It shows my zone as "Los Angeles" with daylight savings off,
which sounds like it should work for Arizona.
Now to register my camera.
I log in to www.usa.canon.com (I created an account when I bought my camera from them).
I use "product registration" (a tab on the left). I select "EOS R5 body" and then
the serial and date of purchase.
