Santa Rita hikes - South
What I call "south side" hikes are hikes accessed from Patagonia and Highway 82.
There are more that what I list here, but this is a start, and a record of my
own experiences.

FSR 72 (Temporal Canyon road) access to AZT
You get onto FSR 72 at the east side of the town of Patagonia.
Find First avenue, which heads straight north along the west
side of the High School and you are in business.
The name of the road changes to "Gringo road", then at the
Forest boundary becomes FSR 72.
- (AZT) Patagonia to Walker Basin - 12.4 miles - 4067 to 5680 feet
- (AZT) Walker Basin to Chinaman trailhead - 2.5 miles - 6500 to 5620 feet
- Fresno Spring, Gringo Mine, Johnson Spring - 3.2 miles - 4500 feet
- Gringo Gulch loop - 3.5 miles - 4500 feet
- Piper Gulch, Mansfield Canyon - 3.7 or 7.7 miles - 4710 to 6240 feet
- Temporal Gulch - 6.6 miles - 5080 to 7140 feet
- Three springs, mine, dam - 5 miles - 4782 feet
- Upper Happy Jack Canyon - 3 miles - 4448 to 5556 feet
- Walker Basin Trail - 2.6 miles - 5641 to 6900 feet
Highway 82 (Patagonia road) access
FSR 143 (Bull Springs road) access
Bull Springs road it is only labeled as such at the northwest end.
This is the road that goes from Patagonia past Squaw Gulch and the Salero ranch.
In Patagonia, find Fourth avenue. Drive north for two blocks, then turn left
onto Pennsylvania avenue. Then wander west and away you go.
- Alto hilltop and Alto Group - 2.1 miles - 5538 feet
- Apache gulch, adobe ruins, San Ramon Mine - 1 mile 5170 feet
- Bond home, Alto ghost town - 0 miles
- Compadre Mine and prospect - 3 miles - 5500 feet
- Connecticut Mine, Silver King Mine - 2.5 miles - 6284 miles
- Ivanhoe Mine - 2 miles - 4767 feet
- Josephine Canyon trail - 2.2 miles - 7100 feet
