Embedded Linux
June 13, 2013
Using linux in an embedded system is at the other end of the spectrum from
something like an 8 bit AVR microcontroller. But with inexpensive ARM processors
and amazingly cheap platforms like the Beaglebone and the Raspberry Pi, this can
be a valid option for some applications. It is an especially attractive option
for a project that requires an ethernet stack that is well proven and solid.
Books
A coworker turned me on to a number of interesting books:
- Embedded Linux Primer by Christopher Hallinan.
2007 - very good. (2010, 2nd edition).
- Building Embedded Linux Systems by Karim Yaghmour et. al.
2008 - O'Reilly
- Embedded Linux Development using Eclipse by Doug Abbott
2008 - recommended as a book to take you by the hand and lead you into eclipse.
One thing the Hallinan book discusses is using remote gdb with a JTAG interface,
which sounds like something to try.
